Ever felt the pain of holding the urge to pee for hours? Welcome to the CLUB.
As women, we suffer more than men due to lack of clean and safe toilets. Our urethra (the opening to our urinary tract) is shorter than in men, thus making it easier for the bacteria to reach the bladder. We often find ourselves in situations where we are forced to hold the urge to pee for hours.
The pain is excruciating, but we have been conditioned not to complain about this because that’s ‘normal’. Well, it isn’t normal. We refuse to acknowledge that the lack of a basic need like a clean and safe toilet is NORMAL.
How can we speak about true women’s empowerment when such a basic need is so hard to find?
We think it’s time to break the taboos and silence, because for heaven’s sake, we suffer and it’s damn painful and humiliating.
Let’s DO something. Let’s show how we feel when we have to go without a toilet for hours. Take a photo of yourself showcasing how you feel. Share it on your social media profiles with the hashtag #lovethyloo. If you love emails then send it at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ask your female friends and colleagues to do the same.
Let’s build a movement of Women who have had Enough.
Here are some women from across India who’ve had enough and are showing how they feel:
Some of them decided to put some special effects to show how they feel. 🙂
